Terms and conditions
1. About these terms
These terms apply to your use of this website and to every gift you make through it. By using the site or giving, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2. Who we are
Adopt a Student is a program of Educational Assistance Fund Inc, a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 87-2532101). Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
3. What we do
We help children in Lebanon stay in school by funding their school fees at partner schools. We are the charity that receives your gift; we are not a marketplace, and children, families and schools do not receive money from donors directly.
4. Who can give
You must be at least 18 years old, or have the permission of a parent or guardian, to give or to create an account. You agree that the information you give us is accurate and that you are authorised to use the payment method you provide.
5. Gifts
A sponsorship is a gift toward one child’s school fees for one school year, up to that year’s goal. A gift to the general fund is help toward school fees, allocated by us to partner schools according to need. A special case is a gift of one child’s full tuition for one school year, funded by a single donor.
As a charity, we have final control over how gifts are used. We honour your choice of child or fund. If a gift cannot be used as you chose (for example, if a child leaves their school), we use it for the same purpose, keeping children in school, and tell you what happened.
All amounts are in US dollars.
6. Payments
Card payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Your bank or card issuer may charge its own fees, for example for currency conversion.
7. Receipts and taxes
Every gift receives a receipt by email showing the amount, the date and that no goods or services were provided in exchange. Gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Please ask your own tax adviser how a gift affects your taxes.
8. Monthly gifts
A monthly gift is charged on the same day each month until you stop it. You can stop it at any time from your account, or by writing to contact@adoptastudent.net.
9. Refunds and disputes
Donations are non-refundable, except for mistakes reported within 2 days. See the refund and cancellation policy. If you think a charge is wrong, please write to us first: we can usually resolve it faster than a dispute with your bank.
10. Children’s stories and photos
Children’s stories and photos are shared with their guardians’ consent, for sponsorship only. Please do not copy, publish or share them elsewhere, or try to contact a child, a family or a school other than through us.
11. Your account
Keep your sign-in details private and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. We may suspend an account that is used in breach of these terms.
12. What you must not do
- use the site for anything unlawful, or to commit fraud;
- give with a card or account you are not authorised to use;
- try to access information or accounts that are not yours;
- interfere with the site’s security or operation, or overload it with automated requests.
13. Our content
The site’s text, design and logo belong to Educational Assistance Fund Inc. Children’s stories and photos belong to their families and are used with consent.
14. Links to other sites
Partner schools’ websites and social pages are run by the schools, not by us, and we are not responsible for their content.
15. Our responsibility
We work hard to keep the site accurate and available, but we provide it “as is” and cannot promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits responsibilities that the law does not allow us to limit.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States.
17. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we will publish the new version here with its date. Changes do not affect gifts already made.
